Core competency is the foundation of ethical, effective practice. Your presence, clarity, and internal steadiness directly shape the safety of the spaces you hold. This course develops the essential skills every practitioner needs to show up with integrity, hold boundaries with care, and support others without losing themselves in the process.

This work is grounded in the understanding that who you are as a practitioner matters as much as the tools you use. At the centre of this approach are three core conditions identified by Carl Rogers: congruence, unconditional positive regard, and empathy.

These are not techniques or checklists. They are qualities of presence that shape the depth and safety of the space you hold. Congruence is your ability to be real and aligned within yourself. Unconditional positive regard is your capacity to meet the client without judgment or agenda. Empathy is your willingness to understand their experience from within their perspective. Together, these form the foundation of ethical, human-centred practice.

The competencies explored in this course develop from these roots. Each is explored in a practical way, looking at how it shows up in real sessions, how to recognise when it is missing, and how to strengthen it over time. These are often the quiet skills in practitioner work, but they are what distinguish a functional service from a space that genuinely supports growth.

Each lesson includes a teaching video, a short written reflection, and a downloadable workbook to support integration into your own practice. The focus is not on perfection, but on presence, awareness, and ongoing development.
