So is there a definite way to establish some type of solid communication between my spirit guide or higher self or whatever because that would help tremendously.

We actually have solid communication with spirit and our spirit guides...its that we can't distinguish the voices we hear and think...our first session of this group talked all about listening...because it takes deep listening with practice to know what you are listening too.
